Mark A. Lackey
reuptake
Samuel Burt, bass clarinet
Mark A. Lackey, electronics (improvised on laptop)
In this piece I set out to explore the possibility of improvising with the instrumentalist. I was especially interested in following the clarinet's tempo changes rather than requiring the instrumentalist to follow the timing of the electronics. The laptop was used to launch and mix beats and improvised melodic fragments as well as textural sound beds, while the bass clarinet was given limited composed material and certain gestures from which to improvise in an altered Locrian mode.
